    media app drain after update

My phone just updated today from verizon and now I have the media app drain. I searched already and it seems most peoples issues were dealing with their SD card but I don't use one at all so I don't know what I should do now.

Let me make sure I understand... The media app is draining your battery, right?

Yeah in the battery its #1 at 36%. Says Media with the green downward arrow icon. I never actually opened anything but from what I've read it has to do with the phone scanning the memory for media.

    It's a process I should say...not an app.

Hmm.. And when you stop the process? Does it come right back up? This just started happening after the update? Have you considered doing a f's tory reset to see if that would fix the problem?

I havent done a factory reset. If i do it will my application be saved? I don't want to lose my contacts on my chat applications.

Unfortunately a factory reset will erase everything. You could try to disable the media process and see if that helps. But some of your features on your phone might be affected.

debrad0307, OP, this is a known problem (as the OP apparently knows), and nobody has 100% isolated the cause. As you indicated evor1, some have seemed to target the SD card as the culpret. It's been said that the card could potentially have 2 "downloads" directories and the belief is that somehow a circular sync process starts that is essentially an infinite loop, causing data to be "cast" over the web and back between Google's servers and the phone. Others have pointed to a complete backup and reformat of the SD card, followed by restoring the folders to solve the problem.

See media server and battery drain - my solution - Android Forums at AndroidCentral.com

Then there's the Spotify and ESPN apps, as well as Facebook and other social media networks.

Also see Battery Draining Media Server - Android Forums

Some claim the problem is related to the caches of various media apps, so clearing caches from those apps, while doing no real harm can possibly resolve it.

See media server battery drain - xda-developers

This possible solution was posted on XDA; Download media scanner root, install, disable the media scanner and thatll solve it. Only time itll come on is when listening to music. Also delete gsiff-deamon and qosmngr in the system bin for better battery life. Google where to find these.

    Here's a post claiming to have a working solution; [HOW-TO] JellyBean - Media storage / Battery drain fix. [11/6/2012] - xda-developers

There's even talk of a Youtube video, and I believe I've watched it before, but can't for the life of me find it now. Anyway, I hope one of the above fixes work for you.

    Good luck!

Thanks for the info! I was doing some research and came across the xda-developers post on the issue. I'm glad that I don't have tremendous battery drain from that process. I'd chuck my phone out onto the interstate right about now.
