I'm getting pretty sick of the lack of updates. I wasn't originally planning to root/unlock this phone, but it's really starting to look like I should. If I do go that route, is there a good way for me to backup my application and application data before unlocking the bootloader?
The blame for lack of official updates has to be placed clearly on the shoulders of Verizon. The Sprint Nexus was released with 4.0.4 and updated prop blobs.
Now the beauty of the Nexus is that with the unlockable bootloader and open source, it makes it easy for devs to get the updated builds out to us. The only problem is that Google doesn't include the updated prop blobs because we are CDMA. We would need a Verizon OTA for that. These updated prop blobs could help many with the radio issues. Come on Verizon...

I was talking with a vzw tech the other morning, and she was trying to say its samsungs fault as to why we dont have have the update.I (addressed her by her name),said samsung is the maker of the phone, the issues we're having is softwear related, why would samsung the maker of the phone fix the OS?Google is the maker of the OS,so Goggle would be the one to fix all softwear problems.I told her Google has updated all nexuses but CDMAs,so this leads me to believe that VZW is holding up the update for whatever reason. And of course, she defended VZW,but IMO she didnt know what she was talking about, but Ill give her credit for sticking to her guns.
Im Loving the ONE and only.
VZW "techs" (and I use that term loosely) generally know less than the average forum junkie. Of course when she has no idea she's going to defend Verizon. Lol. Verizon has a habit of delaying updates. Not just with Nexus phones, although its rather frustrating for us Nexus users since this is supposed to be a pure Google experience. You were right to question her, but you won't get anywhere with most of the techs. They'll simply tell you what you want to hear or direct the blame elsewhere.
