I saw this thread and just started laughing... Apple tries too hard to lose.
On the bright side, this might be the sort of thing we need to see real patent reform. Apple and Google are both highly visible companies, with lots of loyal customers, armies of lawyers, and a fair amount of political influence. If Apple is ever very successful at their patent war, I think we might see some sort of backlash. Though, I suspect it will be a stalemate, and Google and Apple will merely continue to sue each other, wasting lots of money in the courts.
Apple's new strategy is a bit surprising though. HTC and Samsung have got to be easier targets. While the "payout" of a successful win against Google and Android generically is higher, I think it will be much more expensive and painful for Apple to go that route (particularly now that Google can use Motorola against Apple).
Have to agree it's a bit puzzling that Apple seems to have almost no interest in licensing (except when they're the one potentially hamstrung without being able to license).
My only explanation is Apple sees smartphones as being the whole key to future consumers. And I think most people see that, with your phone eventually becoming your "life", replacing a number of household and other gadgets beyond just the PC and even tablets. So Apple is fighting tooth and nail to grab and protect as much marketshare as possible, and by any means necessary, and entrench consumers.
And that's also why I refuse to let myself get sucked into the Apple vortex. I don't want to limit my options even a few years down the road, as this tech space continues to explode, because I've sunk too much money and time into Apple products to change.
This is funny, Apple feels threatened by droids so they are trying to rid them. Good luck lol too many people have them for them to just get sued and disappear.

This is like a car company suing another car company for using wheels on their vehicles. All phones will have basically the same features. maybe slightly different in ways. but in general everthing is about the same. all these lawsuits make them look like kinder gardeners.
And the whole voice search deally? Droids have had voice searches for years. and now icult finally gets it. then they sue? wtf
Yeah I'm pretty sick of hearing about apple suing someone over something they think they came up with. When in fact they took from something else, you don't see Google going after apple for using notification bar pull down in IOS5! I will never buy an apple product for myself or anyone I love!! Haha
