So we've heard the radio issues on Verizon network....

Hi everyone, I am currently on my forth Nexus and you may ask why I keep it. Well, I love the phone when it works... I work in an extended coverage zone during the week. Then I travel north every weekend under Verizon umbrella. I have never had issue with connection while in a Verizon coverage zone... While in the extended network. I am constantly dropping data... It's become more than a nuisance... With being on my fourth phone now, still having the same issues with all four... Has anyone rub into similar issues and corrected this? I had a droid X, graduated to an X2, this is when I began to root and hack.. Naturally I needed something I could go further with since Motorola doesn't believe in unlocking their boot loader... Back on point... I just want to find a way to lock in certain network frequencies like other phones I have had. I'm running codename 1.5.5 with franco milestone 2. The system is stable and smooth... (Does nothing for my radios). I've run every hybrid, created my own... All the same issues... Any advice... I waited a long time to ask for help as I like to figure things out on my own. I'm at a loss.... HELP!!

Are you on the 4.0.4 radios? That would be your best bet. If you are, that's the best you're going to get. Wait til Verizon improves their network in the area you're in.

    ^^ that, unfortunately...

Also, if you've been doing your own research, I can assume you've tried this, but since I didn't see it mentioned, have you tried switching to CDMA only while in the extended areas to see if that helps at all?

Hey there, thanks for your input. 4.0.4 actually seemed to function the worst. Right at this moment i'm running the hybrid #2 which is the 4.0.3 CDMA. With 4.0.2 LTE. This functions the best and holds onto it the longest. I surely always stay in CDMA mode always. I've been experimenting with EVDO only mode as that is the signal it looks into providing me 3G in the extended network. I'm uploading a few screen shots I've taken while testing. Take a look at the codes. While in EvDo..A:B. The 3G signal is locked.. The Rx.... Doesn't work or no data.. 2G only modes.

Looks like I attached Ehrpp. Signal in last post. That is when i'm on Verizon data network. I'll attach two more screen shots. One which shows EvDo which is 3G extended and non functional data. So we've heard the radio issues on Verizon network....-uploadfromtaptalk1332956626653.png

Sorry, you're speaking Greek now. I think you're screwed until Verizon improves their network in your area.

    That's interesting...

EVDO Rev A is Verizon's 3G network, what all the 3G-only phones use (as you know I'm sure). eHRPD is basically a layer "on top" of EVDO Rev A to help make the 3G/4G handoff faster and more efficient. By nature it's not the best solution, but all they had to work with until the new chipsets come out. eHRPD is the reason LTE phones can't even hold a good 3G signal when LTE is struggling or down, while your friend's 3G only phone is standing strong. Get rid of eHRPD and the phone will function like a normal, solid, 3G only Verizon phone. Currently the only chipsets that allow you to truly "get rid of" eHRPD are on the Rezound and Thunderbolt, buried deep in the modem settings, but accessible (and changeable!) nonetheless.

The fact that it's showing eHRPD while the signal indicator is "locked" makes me think that it was struggling at that point, and is not inconsistent with the way it sounds like it's been acting. To be honest, and I'm no expert so take this with a big fat grain of salt, it looks like you're phone is struggling with the eHRPD just like they all do when LTE is weak or down.

So, long story short, I think sb is right... you're kinda SOL until the network improves around there. If you're running 3G all the time anyway, you could grab a phone off Swappa or something for pretty cheap to use as your "daily driver". I picked up an Incredible 2 (an awesome 3G device) for $150 a few weeks ago, in perfect shape. Either that, or grab the Rezound or Thunderbolt if you must have a 4G phone, and disable eHRPD when you travel to those extended areas. Just food for thought...

Jntdroid, thanks for your most excellent description! So I've been testing and playing the last few days and I think I had last mentioned I would go with EVDO only this time around as this choice is the optimal of choices. Since I had been stumbling all over myself with every other option. Take a look at my newest locked in version of EVDO. I'm testing this at this moment to see. My first run was great on the ping but the 3G did not pull so well. Only 150k down and 360k up. I just wanted to jump in and post these screen shots quickly and i'm back to test some more. Ok, so things are looking much better already. Anyone who has issues with extended network, I may have solved this but will require several more days of testing. I'm running codename 1.5.5 with Franco Milestone # 2, and 4.0.4 radios.
so far, no data drops and tough these speed tests are very average to slow speeds, please keep in mind i'm currently in an extended network. I'll keep updating the next several days... Any other caveat anyone has. Throw out those comments... Widgetsoid has the same testing tool codename has built in its advanced DEV tools for those of you on different ROM. Be sure to move widgetsoid to your system app list in either ADB mode or I use App2ROM free app. So we've heard the radio issues on Verizon network....-uploadfromtaptalk1333081620473.pngSo we've heard the radio issues on Verizon network....-uploadfromtaptalk1333081640325.png
