    5.1 (2 channels after encoding)

I'm trying to encode a video here. I've tried ripping both the Lossless audio track (main audio), as well as the '3/2+1' track (which should be 5.1.) When I do this using MakeMVK and play the file back (before encoding), VLC shows that I have the option to play back in 5.1 and select the 'lossless' track for my audio track. (Using the first ripping option.) However, when I encode the video with DVDCatalyst, it is showing up as only 2.0 channel stereo, even though my encoding options for audio mode are set to '5.1' for the conversion.

I've done other movies this way and they have come out properly. However, the last two I've tried (Sherlock Holmes & The Hunger Games) are both coming out with only 2.0 after conversion. Any ideas?

    these profiles:

ADVANCED The new DVD Catalyst backup profiles | Tools4Movies | DVD Catalyst 4

are the ones that works best with 5.1 audio. The rest of them do include 5.1 audio, however the header of the file puts the audio as Stereo.

The ones in the article I spent a long time on to make sure those would encode properly.

Thanks. I'll give that a shot and see how it goes.

When making an MVK, am I better off the use the Lossless audio track (forgot how it is marked in MakeMVK, but is usually the default track: 6-8 channels), or should I use the 3/2/+1 track, which is standard 5.1?

It depends on what you use to play your videos.

Using 5.1/7.1 on a phone/tablet is generally decoded to stereo anyway, so it will only be useful if you use the MP4's with something like a HD media player (WDTV for example), or a computer connected to a surround system, and in those cases, I would recommend using your original MKV's instead.

It's the same file, but streamed to different sources. May stream to my tablet / phone, but most of them will sit on my 2TB nas drive and be accessed through my TV's video app (or PS3 for some), which is hooked to my 5.1 receiver. So, getting the 5.1 audio is very important.

Rats... I tried the backup profile for Generic Android and it still came out in 2.0 channel. I don't know why I'm having such a hard time with this.

I just did a DVD with "Generic > Android MP4" with just 5.1 audio selected, and MediaInfo nicely reports 6-channel audio.

    Are you using 4.2.5.4?

No, let me update. I think I'm on 4.2.1 still. I've tried ripping it strait from disc, and from a made MKV, using both the main audio track and the AC3 track, and it is still coming out as 2 channel every time (when selecting 5.1.) Let me update and try. And this is a bluray disc, not a dvd. Not sure if that matters.

with Bluray it seems to mark it as Stereo.

    I'll look into it.

Yeah, odd.... I just went back through most of the rips I have already done and have noticed that a lot of them are showing up as 2 channel. The odd thing is, all of my Star Wars Bluray rips I've done... they all show 6 channel. I've used the same process on all of them.

I just finished the rip on the latest version. Still coming out as 2 channel. Here are my settings (see screenshot.) Maybe you can tell me what I'm doing wrong here:

There are two for the disc rips I have tried (both settings and what I'm selecting), along with two for the MKV I have ripped, which contains the 6 channel audio track. For the disc rips, I have tried both the DCA and AC3 audio tracks as selections during conversion.

I have also tried different tracks off the bluray disc, but all still the same result.
