Cars 2 (2011) DVD
Originally I picked up the 5disc set from the store, the 3D Bluray, Bluray, DVD, Digital Copy and Bonus disc, but rather than having the actual DVD in the set, the box had 2x the bonus bluray. Nice. Back at the store, I had them open another one, and it also had the same double-bonus disc, so I ended up getting the Bluray+DVD combo. The Digital Copy is useless anyway,so no loss there, but I figured the 3D Bluray would be cool. Ah well.
Disney’s Cars 2 has the (99) fake tracks. By default, DVD Catalyst 4 (4.1.0.2) selects the longest track on the DVD, but unfortunately this is not the correct one.
In order to convert Cars 2 properly so that it will play on your iPad2, iPhone or Android phone or tablet, perform the following steps:
1. Start DVD Catalyst 4, and insert the DVD. DVD Catalyst will scan the disc, and because there are a lot of fake tracks, it will bring up the track-selection dialog:
2. Leave this open, and start your DVD player application, such as Windows Media Player, VLC or PowerDVD.
3. Work yourself through the menu, trailers etc (I always hate that about Disney DVDs), so you get to the actual movie. Then jump to somewhere in the middle:
4. Look for the current track/title number in the top left (Windows Media Player) or using the menu of your application (VLC, PowerDVD). Then close the DVD player application so you get back to DVD Catalyst 4. In the track selection dialog, remove the checkmark for the selected track, and enable the checkmark for the one you found using the DVD player. In my case, it was track 15, but it might be different for yours.
5. Tap OK to have DVD Catalyst 4 scan the selected track:
6. Make changes as you desire, select your device profile (Xoom, Thrive, Nookcolor etc), and then just tap Go to start the conversion process:
7. After the conversion is complete, copy/transfer/sync the created video file to your phone/tablet/media player device, and you are done. Enjoy
Using the default Xoom profile without any settings-changes, Cars 2 ended up as a 1.2GB sized MP4 file.
Of course, with most DVDs, these steps are not even needed, and DVD Catalyst 4 will just convert them without having to find the correct track first, however, especially with some newer Disney DVDs, things can get a little tricky. Besides DVDs, DVD Catalyst 4 can also convert just about all the popular video file types such as M2TS, MKV, MP4, AVI, DIVX, XVID, and if you already use something like ANyDVD HD or MakeMKV, you can even convert Blurays.
