New to DX, coming from rooted D1

Just wondering why when I first got the DX the tethering was free, and now they want 20 a month to be able to do the same thing I was for one of the reasons I got the phone.

Is there a way to fix this or do I need to root the phone and work at it that way?

Tethering for the dx has never been free. Since you know about rooting you should have no problem getting root and making it free though.
