Search locking up

I'm not sure if this is a Droid X issue or just an overall Android issue. My problem is this, whenever I use the search button on the bottom right of the Droid X, it locks up when I am inputting text into the search bar. I use Swype as my keyboard method. I have not had any problems using Swype in any other apps, which leads me to think it might be the search app because it locks up every time I use it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

is it temporary or does it require a battery pull to get out of? mine used to do it and I found it was caused by trying to pull up results while I was still typing

It is temporary. As I use swype to put text in its like it is trying to catch up. I've never had to do a battery pull to reset it, it does eventually catch up. Is there a way to turn that automatic search as you type off? I guess it is like google instant or something.
