I got my replacement. I put in the battery, booted up, activated it, and walked away for ten minutes. When I passed by, I saw the white Motorola M logo.
The "brand-new" replacement was rebooting for no reason.
Over the next hour, it rebooted about every ten minutes, regardless of what I was doing. Keep in mind, this phone was unrooted, unmodified in any way.
Back to Verizon (after wiping data three times), the poor rep's only solution was, "We should factory reset." I swear, I could work for Verizon if that's all you need to know how to do.
So on Wednesday, I'll have my fourth DX in barely six months. The rebooting phone (#3) is already on its was back to them, and I'm keeping the one with the broken camera (#2) until I get the replacement.
If I had the cash, I'd get a Thunderbolt. I'm getting tired of this.

I wonder, if you were to completely destroy this POS phone and say "It got ran over" how this could work. You could save the next person that attempts to use it.

They just boot these phones up after they "fix" it and wait 2 mins and say "next!"

Thats highly unlikely, i'm willing to bet there is an explicit test suite that each phone must pass to be clnr 'certified'. Stuff always gets through the cracks however, just like with newly manufactured.

Well I figured with how many phones I have seen my wife go through, because they were refurbished, and the phones this guy is going through: The system is broken. There really should be something done about those refurbished phones that ruin customer's days.

I can only go by my own personal experience, each of my last 3 phones purchased new had to be replaced under warranty and each of the clnr phones I received worked flawlessly until they were replaced by a new phone purchase.

Sometimes hardware fails, and no amount of testing will detect it. I don't feel wronged by Moto or VZW, they've been great about getting me replacements quickly. I'm just tired of having to get replacements. I'm hopeful that my bad luck has ended concerning this phone, so I can get back to the business of rooting, Gingerbread-ing, and actually setting up a home screen again. I'm actually glad I got the busted X's instead of some joker who wouldn't know how to troubleshoot their index finger, much less a tiny pocket-computer.
EDIT: And I don't at all think that the system is broken. It's working great for me, I've gotten three replacement phones, no charge, no questions asked.
