Droid X - soaked, now dried, boots to bootloader only

Hey all, here's the problem I'm facing.... while on vacation I took my Droid X swimming only to find out it doesn't like water. I pulled it apart, shook out the water, dried off what I could with a towel, let it dry in the sun for about an hour then got a baggie full of rice from the hotel restaurant. I left the Droid in the rice for 2 days.

The screen is functional, the battery is fine; howver, it only boots up to the Bootloader screen where I see:

    BootLoader
    30.04

    Battery OK
    OK to Program
    Connect USB
    Data Cable

When I plug in my USB cable I see:

    BootLoader
    30.04

    Battery OK
    OK to Program
    Transfer Mode:
    USB

Thanks to homeowners insurance I bought a new Droid X but I'm trying to un-brick the water logged X.

I've tried to copy the "update.zip" to the external SDCARD, but I get an error code (2). I can't seem to copy to the Motorola directory (internal memroy).

I've made sure the file is lower case and it isn't named update.zip.zip.

RSD Lite v4.9 on Ubuntu 10.04 doesn't recognize the Droid when its connected.

Any suggestions on how to restore my Droid X from the condition its in?

    Thanks for any suggestions.

Well, I feel like I am pimping him and his file, but I would try loading maderschramms maderstcok - OTA 2.3.340 update.zip and see if you can get it to load..and go from there....

OK, I downloaded the maderstcok340.zip (file size looks right).
    Then did the following:
1.) Copied the file to my 16 Gig SD card.
2.) Held down Power and Home, booted into the recovery screen.
    3.) Pressed the Search button.
    4.) Recovery screen opened.
5.) Used the Volume buttons to choose "apply sdcard:update.zip"
    6.) Get the following:
    -- Install from sdcard:...
    ..Finding update package ...
    Opening update package ...
    Verifying update package ...
    E:signature verification failed
    Installation aborted.

I'm not prompted to install the maderstcok340.zip, only update.zip. How do I choose which file to use?

    Thanks in advance!

Ok, I`m no expert...but I will help as much as I can...

    1) Where on your SD Card did you put the maderstock file? This is important because you may have to navigate into sub-folders if it is just not on the root of the SD card itself.

    5) When you selected "apply update.zip", what actual zip file did you select? You should have been able to use the Volume up/down keys and Camera button to navigate to the maderstock file and select it. Were you able to do this...did you do this, or did you just select "apply update.zip" and let the recovery search?

Make sure you have the maderstock file on the root directory of the SD card, not in any folders just to make it easier to navigate to. Then I would try going back through and re-doing the steps and when you get to the "apply update.zip", make sure you manually select the maderstock file and see what the outcome then is...

Post back and lets us know...good luck!

I copied/ pasted the file to the root of the 16 Gig card.

When I boot into Recovery mode I have 4 options - when I choose the option to use the SD card the only option I have is to use "update.zip"... there's no option to choose a different file.

maderschramm suggested I try clockworkmod recover which I did - didn't work - ignores the files.

Next step is to try sbf.... I did give RSD Lite 4.9 a shot but I'm running a Ubuntu 10.04 machine with VirtualBox running Windows XP SP3 - there's no USB support.

do you know of any Linux based apps I could use?

    thanks again for your assitance.

Actually, no I dont on the Linux front...I have a very limited knowledge of Ubuntu...sorry.

Ok, just so I know I am completely out of ideas and that you have done everything accordingly...follow along and let me know if you have did these things in this order...

    1) Boot into Clockwork Mod Recovery

    2) Volume rocker to navigate to "install zip from sd card"

    3) Camera button to select the above option ^^

    4) 4 options available after selecting the above "install from sd card" option: (a) apply sd card :update.zip, (b) choose zip from sd card, (c) toggle signature verification and (d)toggle script asserts.

    5) Volume rocker to navigate to option (b), camera button to select option (b)...menu opens to show contents of the sd card.

    6) Volume rocker to navigate to "maderstcok340.zip", camera button to select it and start the updating process, etc etc etc...

Is this what you saw when you tried going in through Clockwork Mod Recovery? Sorry if I am beating the proverbial dead horse...just trying to make sure we arent missing something...

I think that's the problem... I don't seem to have any ability to boot into anything other then the original Moto files, madershamm said there was an issue with trying to boot into anything other then a Moto file without using clockwordmod, rooting, using sbf. Seems to be a file signature issue.

Ok..I didnt know that, but I will pack it away back in my repository of "stuff" I have on file in my cranium...

Ok, well, I guess I am out of ideas except to try and do a full SBF if you can...sorry again...good luck with it though...
