Upgraded from D1 to X yesterday. Love the phone but not the power button. Sometimes it takes up to 5 or 6 tries to turn the phone on or off. Am I the only one experiencing this? Is it something that warrants a new phone?

Dude I would go return your X....not that its a bad phone by any means (fricken love that phone actually:) hahah) but you'll be WAYYY better off holding off for the Bionic (Early q2)
OP you should just return it. You still have the warranty so it should be a fairly effortless process to swap for a new one.
