Edit: Just read on it. This is ridiculous. Think its more like an open but controlled platform. Which would not make it OPEN. And most likely the people that are putting custom ROM's on their phone don't want the updates that Moto has to offer.

I hate how motorola talks as if the mod community doesn't try to protect its users from any problems (if any) involved. The mod community offers more support than motorola and theyre taken aback by the fact that we compromise their software and have full support for nearly everyone.

I will probably look into HTC provided they don't keep up the crap like they pulled with TMobiles new G2 (can't keep root)

Its not surprising though. Its a company looking out for its best interest. Lets say you buy a phone root it and mess around with the hardware like OCing it. If you mess it up well there's SBF and you can get back to stock and return it within 30days for another one. Thats one issue. The other issue is due to patent or license agreements or agreements with service providers they want to keep them as a customer or not get sued. If you can root your phone and get free wifi teathering without paying 30$ a month for 5gb added on. The android system is amazing. i had the iphone for 2.5 years and i jailbreaked it way back when it was terminal only. I did everything i could on it. Every update i had to wait to find out whether it was okay or not to move up. I had my droid x for 2 weeks and i was way happier its been 3 months now and it gets better all the time like the PSP when it first started out. My PSP ha i have two 1000s its the greatest sony blocks it all the time from being homebrewed. But if you look at how it was in the beginning and how it is now all the enhancements they have made were done by the community before they made them. Moto has to make a profit to survive. if they make a phone that is unsecured no service provider wouldnt want to sell there product because of security issues and then issues like tethering for free. This is them covering there ass. They cant be sued if they are actively trying to prevent stuff from happening but they can if they are like whatever. eventually as time goes by the companies will embrace the community ideas and put them in there phone. it took 4 years before jobs let you put a background on your phone other than the lock screen. it took the past 5 months for jobs to change his mind on letting you develop in adobe if you wanted too. that stubborn bastard eventually budged because of the community. Sony started making additions to the psp after the community had it for years.

haha yeah a long effen commit. but i love my droid x, my buddy has the evo and he has been having issues and his is stock. only thing i wish is the droid x had the front facing camera also.

Easytether $10 once unlimited data > Verizon tether $30 a month 5gb limit. What Verizon did makes me want to open up my easytether a download a 50 gb torrent and see them not get a dime but then they would probably charge me or cancel my service. I love Verizon's 3g coverage but hate their actions.
