Since the DroidX has CM7....

Can the X in theory someday be able to get the next version of android on it (ICS) since CM7 is now up and running on the X?

Current version for droidx is 2.3.4 and I believe they can build the 2.3.5 version for the droidx. I hope they will release 2.3.5. I looked on the android web site a few days ago and the site has no 2.3.5 to download. I don't know if it is a rumors about 2.3.5 or not.

Theoretically the groundwork is there to get started, but there is no certain way to know until somebody gets their hands dirty and tries it. There are many factors at play, especially the kernel. Right now the 2nd init runs from the froyo kernel, so I would see that as the biggest potential roadblock. I think it is a little early to start guessing though since we do not even have source, let alone any info on ICS.
