    Twitter and Motorola's Stance

    Motorola Motorola Mobility

.@RobBull the XOOM will have an unlockable/relockable bootloader that will enable developers to access hardware for development

    - This is actually a great step forward for future platforms, but it also doesn't help those of us who already have a locked BL

    - Alias said that he was considering writing a letter, and another forum user was considering starting a petition. Both are great options, but Twitter is also a great avenue to take.

    - I think that we should pester Motorola's twitter account basically asking for the keys to unlock the bootloader.

    - Tweeting "motrla IH8U u r gai n unlck my bootloader now fgts" is not an acceptable tweet in this case.

Tweets should be polite and reasonable, such as wanting to continue developing the DX after it reaches it's EOL, and actually wanting to be able to completely own a device that we paid hundreds of dollars for.

    - We should attempt to get the developers on board as most of them have 1000+ followers and we will get more chances of a RT.

    Thoughts?

    Thumbs up

Totally agree. I also like the idea of an online petition.

It'd take something like this, but even then Motorola can say most of them aren't using Motorola hardware and most likely won't.

That may be true, but then again how many of us thought that the Xoom would be shipping with an unlocked bootloader?

We shouldn't just completely rule out a possible avenue just because we believe the chances are slim. People said the same thing about Alias's attempts and look how much progress has been made on that front.

If we get a lonely, stubborn 17 year old hacker we might be able to make progress on that front too. I'm just really hoping for an eol unlock for us. I really doubt that will happen though. Just because the Xoom is unlocked doesn't mean a damn thing for us. Think moto Droid.

It's not unlocked, it's UNLOCKABLE. Big difference.

All in all, I don't think spamming Motorola's Twitter account would do anything except get a lot of people very annoyed, possibly including Twitter.

I do believe that would be the entire point. And unlockable is much better than what we have now lest we forget.
