Difficulty truly unrooting

Ok so here's the situation. A long time ago I had a stock Droid X, I rooted using Z4root. I then had the superuser icon and installed wifi tether. A long time passed and I wanted to get updates but being rooted couldn't do it OTA. So I unrooted or so I thought, but it failed. I then installed a ROM ( I forget which one but I can look it up somehow I'm sure if that info is needed, it was basically a copy of the OTA updates for those who couldn't get OTA). Anyways, I tried to root again and was unable, also I can't unroot because Z4root no longer works? I'm in limbo or something it seems. I have bootloader 30.04.

Long story short, I want to take my phone back to stock so I can start over with everything. Is this possible? If not, is there an alternative solution that will allow me to root again?

I'm computer smart but not up to date on all the terms you all use but I'm good with google

Well to take it back to a true stock state you will need to SBF your phone. There are a ton of great guides out there and honestly I do not view it as a difficult process.

I am on my way back yo work from break but if you Google "how to sbf a Droid x" you should find something easily. You are going to want a full sbf, not a system only one. If you Google "Droid x sbf files" one of the first results has all of them listed and you want the one for android version 2.2.1 (normally at the top of the list)

I have to go back to work now but if you have any questions I will answer them when I can. Although it may be a little while.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll give it a try. I don't care about any data on the phone so I think going stock and starting over is the best plan at this point. I'll let you know how it goes.

So I tried SBF flashing to 340 and everything seemed fine, ran RDS_Lite as admin and it said passed. When I booted it up it the phone would lock up after about 1 min. About 10 battery pulls later, I was able to get the phone to work but I tried a text message and the phone locked. So I tried to SBF 602 from a different computer thinking maybe I did something wrong. Again RDS_lite said it passed and now the phone will boot up but I see nothing on the screen and all 4 buttons are glowing, I can pull down the notification screen but that's it.

Any thoughts on what the next logical step is?

One weird thing I noticed, when I flashed 340, I tried to log into email and it worked without me telling it UN:PW. Should I try pulling the SDcard? Something is not being overwritten/forgotten when I flash. I'm willing to blow out any data, SD card or phone or whatever is needed to get this thing to work again.

I would try running the .340 one again. When it is done boot into stock recovery and do a factory reset/data wipe. I always do one after an SBF and have not encountered these issues. Also, mind your battery levels, it is not charging while the SBF is going on so if you run out there is no way to charge except externally.

I tried 340 again. This time I get no icons on the home screen just the 3 at the bottom (phone, apps, contacts) if I click on the apps the phone locks up. I have to pull the battery to get it to turn off.

Should I try taking it to the verizon store to have them factory reset it?

Yes...this metod is too prety sure solved about u're problem. I think.
Just flash SBF with file what u are needed and u can search in this forum for files, detiles or tutorial. DONE!!!

Good news! I went to the Verizon store and they were able to restore it back to it's original state. The tech didn't give me any hassle or question if I had rooted it. It's still under warranty so he told me to test it for a few days and if it's still problematic to call the warranty number for a replacement. My warranty ends mid December.
