Rooting Issues

Just got this droid off this guy for a good price, he tells me its already been rooted and running 2.3.3 but when i downloaded the root checker app it gives me a error saying "the root was not properly configured or was not granted". i do a master reset and the super use app is there so i check that and try to update it and it says "an error occured and SU was not updated. and it tries to place a ZIP file on my sd card but doesnt download. i personally have tried everything and getting frustrated. should i ask for my money back or is it something im missing?

Nevermind! Had to do some researching and use rds lite
