About to stuff my DX down the garbage desposal

The Droid X used to be the greatest thing to ever happen to me.
Now I am about ready to snap it in half and buy an iPhone.
I've been a huge advocate of Droid since I got the original Droid the week it came out. I rooted, ran different Roms, etc.
It was always buggy, but I attributed that to it being young and me hacking it.

Now this DX has gone from my prized possession to literally doing NOTHING right.

I have it rooted, but have always kept it on stock in hopes of keeping it stable.

The last four months have been awful. Reboots, freezes, unable to answer phone calls.
I blamed Launcher Pro, so I switched back to stock. Different problems, and the same.

So now I get excited when I see that the Gingerbread has leaked and seems to be stable. Maybe they've actually fixed these glitches that are turning me on Droids

I've spent ALL DAY trying to get it flashed to GB.

I'm not an idiot, I've been flashing roms and this stuff for 18 months with my old Droid and G Tablet.

    1. Bootstrapper clicks, "Success!". OK. Click Reboot. Nothing. No response.
I realize that it hasnt asked SU permission.

    2. I test my root access, valid. Wifi tether works, Titanium Back up works, etc.

    3. I decide to unroot and reroot using z4. Unroot.
Try to reroot. Of course not.
Acts like it works, reboots. Nothing.
34 times later, nope. No root access.

    4. SuperOneClick acts like it works, it does not.

So now I have digressed to no longer having root, and unable to get it back.

    5. Decide to flash to SBF 2.2.3.34 (or whatever the new one is) and try to reroot from there.

Even Factory Wipe it with no recent Titanium Backup because I just dont fckn care anymore.

    6. Of course RSD Lite does not work. Read 2 hours worth of directions and forums. Do everything right. BootLoader comes up, can not click Start on RSD.
Spend an hour uninstalling and re'installing drivers. Doesn't work.

So now, after ten hours, I not only do not have GB loaded and finally running stable (yeah, right), but I now have backtracked into NOT being rooted, UNABLE to Root, and a wiped phone.

What am I doing wrong here? Honestly, I've been the biggest advocate of Android since November 09, and I am about to jump ship.

    Enough is enough.

It is unfortunate that you had to go through that, but you can't blame it on Android. Root isn't officially supported by Android and you can't blame the OS for the root related errors.

i don't think he ever got on to gingerbread. did you try rebooting the computer after you downloaded the drivers? i don't know if that will help your specific issue or not but it's worth a try.

If you are on a windows 7 machine, you have to run rsd lite as an admin (right click -> run as admin)

Root with a 1 click windows script through adb...I believe people have lots of random reboot issues due to z4...I used the script on my D2 and I've never had 1 random reboot with any of the ROMs available.

    Just my two cents.

Edit: The adb root script is called DoRootX or something along those line, if I find the link, ill re-edit and post
Sent from my DROID2 of shame!

Make sure you have Superuser.... then you need bootstrap for the Droid 2.. The Bootstrap for Droid X will give you a black screen

Haha I was in a really bad mood last night when I went on this rant.
Got it figured out fairly smoothly this morning by running RSD on a different PC. (a 64bit, when the 32 wasn't working, ironically)

Running the new rooted GB now and its awesome.

Thanks guys, apologies for my negativity.

You should create a new thread for yourself. And explain more clearly
