What kernel are you running?
What was the specific error message the app gave you? -

Check by going to SETTINGS > ABOUT PHONE > KERNEL VERSION
It's close to the bottom of the ABOUT PHONE menu.
Also, did Wifi Tether ask for root permissions when you tried to run it? -

01-12-2011 03:32 PMBased on your kernel version, I think either your root failed or you are still on the stock ROM. To check if you're rooted - do you have an app called "Superuser" in your app drawer?

01-12-2011 11:18 PMDid the Wifi Tether app ask for super user permission when you first started it up? Is it in the list of apps that have permission in the super user "app"?
If yes, honestly, I have no idea what could be wrong. Based on the error message, if it were me, I'd try using a different kernel. -
