    Newbie Needs Help

First off, I am running 2.1 and I have a stock phone with no plans to root. I have only had the phone two weeks and am totally new to these devices. With that said, I have seen alot of nice home screens and want to know what my options are as far as a non rooted phone. I also have seen a flip style clock widget with weather and would really like to have that. I would appreciate any help.

So can any of this be done on a non rooted phone?

If you use a third party launcher like Launcher Pro or ADW Launcher the possibilities for changing the look of home screen on a non rooted device greatly increase - both of these home replacements are highly customizable and if you don't like it just uninstall, no harm - no foul

So if I install LP and don't like it, I can just uninstall it and it will revert back to my stock look automatically? Also, do I need to do anything before installing LP on my phone? Will my current widgets and apps carry over? Once again, I really appreciate the help as this is all new to me and don't want to make a mistake and screw my phone up.

Exactly as you have stated - when you install LP it will be like a blank canvas - you will be able to choose how many homescreens - to hide the notification panel - hide icon title names -

There is also a great write up on ADW Launcher that you might find interesting - http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dro...-launcher.html

So since my current widgets and apps wont carry over, should I delete them before I load LP?

You could...but if you don't and you choose to uninstall LP or ADW when you return to your stock launcher everything will be as you left it

Thank you very much. I think I will give LP a look and see if I like it.

One other question is, I will leave my current widgets and apps they way they are. Now when I load LP you said it will be basically be at a blank state and I will have to add all my current apps into LP, correct? So I should write down what I have or can I go to the market place and they will be there?

You are not deleting any apps they will be in app drawer and market. If you were to do a hard reset for any reason, you would be wiping the phone clean...In this case you should probable get astro file manager and back up app list because free apps will be gone when you restart phone...paid apps will always show up in the market because you paid for them through google. Astro or a backup program is a good thing to have .

You may also want to install a home switcher app...I have found that after installing LP it is sometimes difficult to get back to original home if you chose to... homeswitcher is free in the market.
