Looking for a backup program that will backup data

I dunno if it's a privacy issue, but without giving 'root' (superuser) access to an app there's only so much it can access... so you wouldn't be able to back up sensitive data.

MyBackUpPro will still do backups for much of your device, just app settings (not the apps itself) and some other device data needs root access to be backed up.

I discovered this the first week I had the phone and decided rooting was the only reliable way to create a backup image. The fact that the carrier failed to provide adequate backup capability leaves me with no remorse for having to root the phone for my own protection.

I'm so used to living in the cloud I can hardly think of any data on my phone that isn't already backed up somewhere.

For tasks I use both Gmail Tasks and Remember the Milk which syncs on my Droid X with Astrid.

For notes I use either Evernote or Simplenote synced with mNote on phone.

I use Google for contacts and calendar, Google Voice for calls and sms.

Most anything else I care I about I just put in Dropbox.

I'm trying to imagine what kind of app data would live on your phone only.

Handy Backup for Android is the best data (tasks, work stuff, notes) backup program I've ever used. It's a free.

I just had to reset my phone and lost a bunch of stuff.
3rd party apps, like BP Log, who's data did not get backed up with MyBackupPro.

Is the consensus that I need to root my phone for a true complete backup to work?

I havent found a way to backup all data withOUT rooting. If anybody knows a way to do this, please let us know. Backup apps like MyBackupPro and others will backup some data, but only if the app was designed to allow it. It would be great to be able to backup the phone and know that all data is safe if it is ever needed.

Astro will backup not rooted devices. Tap menu, tap tools, tap application manager/backup

Astro will backup not rooted devices. Tap menu, tap tools, tap application manager/backup

I disagree that Astro will backup all data on non-rooted devices.

u cant backup all data on phone without root because u cannot access all data without root. u should really consider rooting, its very simple and u can always unroot
