Please please please don't kill me for asking the question...
i'm torn between the x and the incredible (and yes i know that i'm on the x and most people will be biased) but i'm really looking for some real user knowledge of the cameras on these 2 phones....i know, i shouldn't be buying the phone for the camera, but lets face it...i have over 1200 pics and 500 videos on my phone of my child...
all the "reviews" on the internet talk about the phone pre 2.2...and that doesn't do me any good...can anyone speak to the cameras the picture quality of them?
i played with them simultaneously in the store...and the x seemed very pixelated and rough around the edges...and the incredible seemed to snap the pic quicker...but who knows what the settings were on, since they're the ones in the store...and no i don't know anyone local that has both these phones to play with...
TIA for any advice....
I have the x, OTA upgraded to 2.2 and have not been really wild about the camera functions. They did make some changes in 2.2 but they still don't seem to be that great. Daughter has an incredible and the pictures are much clearer, could be me but no matter what changes I make in the options they never seem that great.
I have the DX and my wife has the Incredible. I have to say that my wife's Incredible picture quality is better then my DX.
You are right, you shouldn't be looking at a cell phone for the camera. It is one feature, and there are many more to consider.

You'd pretty much have to take the same picture in the same lighting conditions with both phones to actually compare. If the lighting is very good the pictures are amazing. If the lighting is weak then like I said it's kind of "iffy" I really can't complain about that though since I had a phone that was like that before. Either way it's still better than any other camera I have!
Once I was told about touch/ hold screen to mimic anti shake by camera being more stable it went from ok to very good.
I have a good stand alone camera for stuff I know in advance but when you've got kids sometimes its either spend time unpackinga camera and miss the action or whip out the cell phone and get a shot and see it too.
I've never bought a phone for its camera but I use the crap out of the one on it and have gotten some marvelous stuff from my Dare and Omnia, have taken well over 2000 with them and over 200 in a month on my Incredible and have printed 6 4x6 and an 8x10 that I'm very happy with of a writer spider close up, very rarely seem around here.
I can't compare it to an X but I'm very satisfied with my Inc camera when my Sony isn't practical

I have the X and though i'm not terribly happy with the camera on it, especially for it being labeled as an 8 megapixel camera, one thing it does do is the .jpg file it creates is 300 DPI. not the usual 72dpi with a huge dimension photo. I've printed a few pictures from my DX and am happy with the product. The video is ok for bright light conditions, as is the camera. Close up night photos using the flash is ok too. Frankly, I expected more. But hey, as many have said, its but one feature. And frankly, I too have tons of pics of my kids on my DX. Its more than ok for me. Most of them are clear and satisfactory. If i want better, I'll use my real camera, not my phone.
About all you can say about the X camera is, it's better than nothing. Out in the bright sun, it takes great pics. In low light it is almost totally useless.
Even the cheapest real digital camera will blow it away quality wise, but then again most of the time that "real camera" will be sitting home.....
I have noticed that the image I see right after taking the photo is not as good as the image I sere when I go back to look at it later. I think the quality of the photo is fine for being a cell phone.

I have an X and I also put high importance in the Camera.
I came from the Nokia N82 and Sony Ericsson K800, both great camera phones.
The X was abysmal in picture quality compared to my other 2 phones. Seriously, it was so bad, I regretted getting the X. However, many people on this forum recommended the Vignette app. It basically add a slew of filters on top of your pictures. And now it's Great!
The X camera quality isn't very good out of the box.
But with the Vignette app its great.
(I guess the same would work for the inc, but I prefer the X's standard camera button, as opposed to optical sensor thing on the face)
