Google code names the android releases with alphabetical, food related names. Cupcake (1.5) Donut (1.6 I think), Eclair (2.1) our version. Froyo (2.2), and Gingerbread hopefully late this year. I forgot what the previous names were.
There are some very nice feature upgrades that come along with it including easier email navigation, browser navigation features, etc. It also include the implementation of a piece of software code known as JIT, or just in time processing which makes better use of the processor/s. Upgrading to Froyo has generally shown benchmarking performance increases of 2-5 times over Eclair. I saw about double when I installed a Froyo ROM on my original Droid

Many users want the upgrade just because FlashPlayer is compatible, which many websites use for video such as CNN, NYTimes, and if you didn't already know, Android is for porn LOL

When Will I be able to upgrade to the 2.2 version? is there a set date for each droid x or?????
you can update now... just go to your phone settings and check for the update. it will be there as long as you are stock 2.1
