    Removing Standard Apps

Is there any way to remove any of the standard apps that come with the phone (without rooting)?

Several apps I have, I have absolutely no use for like Blockbuster, Amazon MP3, City ID - just to name a few....

I tried to delete the actual .apk files from phone's memory and got an access denied error. I'm hoping there is something we can do...City ID? Blockbuster? Useless to me.

    1) Get root.
    2) Delete apps.

We're all stuck on 1) right now.

I have never rooted before - and I was just reading in another thread where they are still working on it...Aside from my being able to remove whatever applications I want to, what are the benefits to rooting and are there any drawbacks?
