There are tons of downloadable movies for the dx.. it'll play anything from avi to mkv in 720p format.
Just look for downloadable movies on the net, grab some, and out them on your phone. Its pretty easy.
Why would I want to cripple my phone's bandwidth waiting ages for a hd movie download, when I can do that at home on my pc, or rip a dvd or blu ray, and then just drop the file on my phone's sd card?
Plus hd 720p movies cvan use up 2-4 gig... so you can't really fit that many on the sd card, unless you have no music or other apps on your phone.
I suppose you could put lower res standard video movies on your phone to watch, but since I have a 720p phone, I want 720p movies on it.
When I ripped Ghostbusters, it was about 3.5 gig in size.
There's nothing wrong with converting your own dvds to a portible format, and there are many public domain movies that are not copyrighted any longer.
Torrenting copyrighted films however is a different kettle of fish.
Yeah i personally rip my own dvds, i have a collection of nearly 150 i want to say so i dont feel like i need to download movies but....yeah...there are free movies like HOME i think thats what its called but its a tree hugger type movie i reccomend for those folks who like Earf
For the record, if you rip a BluRay into H.264, it can be 700mb in size and still look awesome on the Droid X...I know, cause that's what I do...

Bagz Droid Razr, Most Nearly Bone Stock...Rooted...ROM`d too many times to list...and still kicking iPhones in the @$$ on a daily basis....
to add on, i download movies all the time. blu rays, ranging from 3 to 11gb. i convert them to droid mp4 format and the size is about 1gb. drop them on my card (32gb) and play them with mvideoplayer. no sync issues, nothing. Sometimes, if i dont feel like converting, i just click the link of an avi and it downloads automatically on my phone (thru wifi, a 350mb movie takes about 10 minutes). then just play it with Rockplayer.
