    Kids and my Droid X

Just got my Droid X last week and I absolutely LOVE it. Couldn't be happier.

My kids also love it, especially all the coloring pages and Talking apps.

Right now, I have one of those silocone covers, which to me seems to protect the phone pretty well. However, I am very hesitant to let my kids use it (ages 7, 5, and 3) without me hovering over them. They are pretty well behaved kids, but accidents do happen. Am I OK with what I have or should I invest $30 in something like the Trident Kraken? How durable is the phone?

The durability is like the lottery. you can drop it 10 times and it will be fine. That 11th time it may explode. they are tough phones but I dont think Id let a 3yo play with it.

I would maybe let the 5 and 7 year old play with it. My 7 year old routinely plays (and helps me beat) the Angry Birds levels and Rocket Bunnies.

But, you have to have the same rules as when they asked to hold their newborn baby sibling in the hospital room...
    1) Quiet, inside voices
    2) No grabbing
    3) Stay seated at all times
    4) Wash your hands before you hold "the baby"

My 7 year old can sit and play on my phone. He cannot run around the house with it. He has a rather indestructible DS for that.

Read reviews on the otterbox commuter vs rugged. I specifically address this issue with my 22 mo old. The rugged is great, and the buttons can be disabled with a little alteration of your 35 dollar case. However taking it on and off has made the case not stay together as well. I am waiting on more reviews on the kraken before trying. My biggest issue is taking the case off to put into the cradle. It really takes a toll on hard cases. With your age kids, you might get away with the commuter....just no screen protection.

Personally I don't let my child play with my phone - but if I did, it would be protected...but I keep it that way anyways

Thanks all. Beka, that is how I am with them now. My 5 year old and 7 year old are very responsible, but I don't want to have to hover over them when they use it. I think I am leaning towards getting a hard case. I have seen great reviews on the otterbox cases, but the reason I am leaning towards the kraken is the built in screen protector. Would prevent scratches from my kids. (I don't have the patience with the do it yourself protectors...LOL)

The defender has built in screen protection. In the accessories forum there a few threads on otter box cases with good reviews and pics. Check there before dropping serious money on a case. Like I said, I use the defender and don't think twice about my 22 mo old playing with it!
Well, that and insurance gives me peace of mind.
