    How to disable Verizon network?

When I'm on wifi @home, I have maybe 1bar of vzw signal.

Some things are as fast as they should be, and others I am sure are going slow thru my vzw connection. I have switches on the desktop for satellite, bt, wifi, how can I make/find/use the one switch I _really_ need?

    TIA

    pat

If using WiFi than the 3G network is disabled. I believe what you are seeing with the one bar is the calling part. It still lets you receive phone calls even though you are surfing the net. By disabling Vzn you no longer can call/receive phone calls. What you are seeing as far as some sites fast, others slow is normal.

If you're on WiFi you're not using 3G data. You just have REALLY bad connection at home. Check your signal strength under settings> about phone> status. Anything under -80DBm is low signal. Anything below -90DBm is very low signal. TO give you an example, about 100 feet from directly under the towers here I get about -65DBm. At home I get -88 to -97DBm. Every 3DBm it goes up indicates a doubling of the signal strength.

    Guys,

Thanks for writing. I have speedtest.net on the x and with all the other systems here the x is seeing 2.02 dn, 0.51 up. I also have google voice for this, the laptop (gizmo5), and landline.

OK, so you guys think i'm crazy (i don't blame you!). So is there any way for me to turn off the vzw service without breaking out Eclipse?

    Thanks again to all helping!

    pat

Are you even connected to the WiFi system at home? Are you stock? Running a ROM?

Have you tried puting your phone in airplane mode? Once in airplane mode you can turn on wifi without the mobile network reactivating.

    Bigdog,

That speed is not to my ap, but to speedtest.net's choice of nearest server on the internet.

A for airplane mode, I thought that liked everything. I will test! Yup. Sure enough it cuts off telco.

This is what I needed to test my theory. Many thanks!
