trying to theme Handcent

so i replaced all the .png's and what nots. but when i try to install it i get the application install failed msg.


open the .apk with 7zip
copyed the files into the proper drawable folders.


is there something i'm missing? does the .apk have to be resigned? and how would i do that?

If you open the archive with 7zip it shouldn't need to be resigned, I don't know what could be happening to give you this error, you can always make a MM file and theme it that way, or place your .apk in an update.zip or push it into the system using terminal

ok i have an old version (3.0.4)that was themed installed. i was trying to take those pngs out and add them with a few others to the updated version of handcent and then install it. over the older version so not to loose any of my settings. I actually tried uninstalling the older app and still go the fail msg.

which of those options would be the easiest? i have all the files ready to go on my laptop

If you have the .apk already together I would say the Terminal route...what is your ROM or are you stock rooted ?

The new apk is on my sd I'm running the nice Project Elite rom right now.

Do you have a terminal emulator ?

If so you can try this

su
sysrw
cd /sdcard
cp -R Handcent.apk /system/app
sysro
sync
reboot

Just make sure the .apk is named Handcent.apk

Do this, get apk manager 4.9 decompile. Add your images to the approiate places. Compile and resign as a /data/app.

I grabbed that, trying to figure it out. Can't seem to get it to work. The apk can be on my pc? Oor do I have to pull it off the phone. Seems like I am stuck on option 22 which seems to be first
