Im going to do an end around and answer your question. First I would install metamorph and then grab a theme such as xeodus. Inside his theme there is a gmail folder. What you can do is either mix and match your icons with his, or delete his icons and puts your icons in the folder etc. With metamorph then you can choose just to install the gmail themes, and then this would install your modifications if they are in the gmail folder. All of this without a reinstall, or a reboot.

Yes, what kevdog has stated is the absolute easiest way, and the only way I tried. So I would say, the recommended method.

This worked perfectly! Thanks for the detailed instructions. I couldn't believe how easy it was to do this. I'd been trying to do this the hard way all this time.

How about a vibrate icon? As in, make the stock one hi resolution?
    I now have a Droid!

Hey guys, just a tip on a great icon site... www.veryicon.com
I know there are millions of places for icons, but this is one of the most complete ones I've seen, and work with it regularly. I use icons from here a lot when I'm designing new AMX touch panels, for example.

Anyway, check out the categories. Don't think you'll be disappointed.

I haven't rooted my Droid yet, so I guess this won't really help me out quite yet... but I may do it eventually... we shall see.

Thanks for the site suggestion. I haven't been doing much over the past few days with my droid as I had to get a replacement and haven't decided if I want to root it as well, or wait until after the new 2.1 update.
