Looking for a little help

I have read over the theme guide (The ultimate Themeing guide) and have followed the steps to make changes. The ic_notification _overlay icon was a black square and I wanted to change it just to start small. I made the change and resigned the zip loaded it to the phone and still the same.

I pulled the zip opened it back up and checked the .png and it is the way I made it.

Any help would be appreciated.
