Heres somethings that helped me. GIMP - The GNU Image Manipulation Program for editing pictures. Tuts https://docs.google.com/Doc?docid=0A...k4OHNxZA&hl=en, theres a lot of info there. 7-Zip for opening zip files. Like roms.

Read in the tut about .9.png's. Basically your ok as long as your just changing the color. This is how I've done it. In a nut shell, use 7zip to open your rom from your pc. Right click/open archive. Double click your way through system\framework\framework-res.apk\res\drawable-hdpi\. The stat bar is usually called statusbar_background.9.png. Edit in Gimp2 and place back in drawable-hdpi. Reflash rom.

Another way is to take your new framework.apk from the rom and place it in an update.zip template. This way your just flashing just your updated framework.apk. Heres more on that. how do you use ninja morph?. look in post #7 for the templates. Theres also intructions in that post for using template.

I'm not an expert, but I use this process and it works fine. Let me know how it goes

if you are looking to change the font color in the status bar it is controlled by the services.jar file. There is a tool available to alter these changes.

search for colorchangev3.jar in these forums or Google!

The OP is asking about the status bar but johnnyb15613 brings up a very good point. If your status bar is black with light text, when you change the bar to a light color the text may become unreadable. In that case you will need to edit the text xml's. Found that out the hard way.
