Erasing Trashed and Sent Emails

What is the secret to erasing trashed (and sent) emails on my Droid (OS version 2.2). I synch on Outlook server for corporate email and a POP account for home emails. The trash folder has thousands of emails in it. If I try and delete any the mail program crashes but there must be a way to "select all" and erase them rather than doing them one by one.

Also, I have certain emails in one account that refuse to be deleted from the mail listikng no matter what I do.

Any ideas?
