Can no longer save pictures received in text messages

Just as the topic says. I used to be able to save pictures I got in text messages but now when i press the picture it does nothing. The menu options flash up for a second but then nothing. I have space on both the phone and SD card so not sure if I messed up an option by accident somewhere or my phone is just messed up. I'm guessing there is an option that i've messed up but i can get it to pop up the menu but only just for a second and it's gone. Not even fast enough to press anything on any of the menu like "Save" or whatever. Thanks for any help.
