HELP!!! Just rooted and my phone keeps powering off!

Sorry to cross post, but I really need my phone. I saw where a factory reset may help? if so, do I need to backup first?

By "shows the battery in red", do you mean the red LED is blinking, or you have a red battery image on your screen when you boot up?

Both. I retried the process, and get to

Install/sdcard/update.zip (depreciated)

now I get the message

E: Can't Mount SDCARD.update.zip
Installation aborted

bust still same power problem.

I have had issues with saffire kernels showing that my battery is about dead when I know that it was fully charged. I switched to Chevy's and now all is good. hope this helps

I don't know. I just went by the process listed above.

Ok from looking at the guide you used I couldn't find where it recommended a rom, I think the author just implied that you already have one. What you need to do first is find a rom file, that can be done via google search (try cyanogenmod or lithium mod for starters) or just browse the custom roms section of the forums. once you decide on one, download it - its going to be a .zip file that's 70 - 80mb. This is the file you will be renaming update.zip. once you have this file, go ahead and try the process again. If you need any additional help, just shoot me an email - infernox51@gmail.com

If the battery is showing red and you know for certain that you have battery charge you need another kernel. Try this kernel instead by ChevyNo1:

Boot into recovery and standard update.zip install.

If you still have the problem, try this one by P3Droid:

http://www.p3designs.info/kernels/250-600-v32kernel.zip

Also standard update.zip install in recovery.

The problem actually turned out to be lack of a rom file for the update.zip installation. I emailed back and forth with him for a few and he was able to sucessfully load lithium mod. The guide he used is excellent, however it does not include an actual rom file.
