can't get nandroid options in recovery menu

from rom manager when i try to go into recovery, i can no longer get the nandroid options in the menu--just get the standard options & i have performend the sprecovery procedures several times. i've even tried to go back to "like new" state when i purchased the phone, but cannot perform this procedure without the needed options in recovery. any ideas how to overcome this issue?

In clockwork recovery it is under restore option.

i don't have that option--i only have
1-reboot system now
2-apply sd card:update zip
3-wipe data factory reset
4-wipe cache partition

then under this i get

e: can't open /cache/recovery/command

I am having the exact same problem with my droid 2. I get the E:Can't open /cache/memory/command

Has anyone figured this out? I can't see 'nandroid' any more either.
