Got the Motorola Droid last night

I needed an upgrade, and my step-mom never used the phone for what it's worth, so she gave me her Droid.

I've been trying to add ringtones to the phone. She said it was updated recently, which is probably why it isn't giving me the option to mount the SD card so I can add ringtones to it. I can't even save a sound from a message I sent to the phone from my e-mail. I make ringtones on mytinyphone.com; had an LG Voyager before, and it was no problem.

TL/DR: How do you save sounds from an SMS message to your phone to use as a ringtone?

When you play the sound from the sms message, hit the menu button and there should be a window that pops up and asks if you want to save the file to your sd card.

Long press on sound and choose save to SD card...make sure there is an SD card in phone first, maybe that's why you can't mount it to your computer.

If you're using a PC you may have to have the correct drivers for mounting. I however do not have a clue as to where they are. I'm a Mac person.

Negative -- you need no additional drivers to simply mount the SD card. One of the magic things about SD cards in phones is that they present themselves to the PC as a regular old camera card or flash drive.

My bet is that the OP doesnt have an SD card.

Well LtKen then all these things I've been reading about having correct drivers...I either imagined them or people are yanking my chain?

You need drivers for things like SBF restores and tethering, but to simply mount the SD card like you would a regular flash drive, all versions of Windows will automatically detect and install whatever drivers, just as it would a portable hard drive or the like.

If his Droid is not prompting him to mount the SD card, it's indicative of a lack of SD card. Even without the drivers, the Droid knows it's connected to a PC, and should prompt him to mount the card.

I understand about sbf. I'm saying however I've seen many threads where people are searching for drivers to mount their stock Droid.

Vista 32 bit A855 driver search

This is one of them I found.

Weird, I've plugged my Droid into no less than 10 computers, XP, Vista, and 7, and they all worked just like a flash drive. I will defer to the OP, if drivers help, then they help.
