Well, heres my $0.02. I came from a Droid X...went to this Razr and bypassed the Razr Maxx because I couldnt justify the added expense of $200 for a larger battery and 200mhz faster clock speed on the processor. Heres my reasoning, take it for what it is...

1) On my Droid X, with a custom ROM (Liberty usually), I was steadily getting 17-21 hours of my normal usage...2-5 <5 minute phone calls, 10-20 text messages, 30-45 minutes of web browsing/Droid Forums app, 5-10 minutes of Market down loads, 1-3 YouTube vids, and an average of 4-6 hours of SD Card MP3 music file playback via WinAmp...

2) I have long ago broken myself from thinking I need to have my home email and my Gmail accounts syncing every hour...so I had them set to only synch on WiFi...which I have at home. GPS, Bluetooth were both OFF unless needed...no sense in them searching when not needed...same with WiFi.

3) When I moved to the Razr, I kept the same "old habits", as well as utilizing Smart Actions since I now have 4G access where I work. As soon as I leave my 4G area and revert back to 3G, I am within 30 minutes of being home, where my phone automatically connects to my WiFi...and where I also have access to 5 chargers since I have a Razr, wife has a D4, my daughter has my old DX, my wifes old D2 is still laying about as well as an old D1 I bought online about 6 months ago...needless to say, I dont worry about battery life at home.

4) Doing what I do, along with what the phone can do, I come home daily around the 30-70% mark on my Razr...and alot of that depends on wether or not I have increased my 4G data usage by surfing considerably more than normal or if I have had to have my Navigation...below is a screen shot of today's usage...

5) In the end, if you can afford the extra cash...go ahead and get the Maxx`s...if you are dollar concious and will be home o around charger in less than 15 hours, I would just get the Razr...

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I didn't think the Maxx was clocked faster; just a larger battery and a larger body to hold it. It's even the same firmware version as the RAZR.

If you can get your hands on two RAZR Maxx batteries and back doors you can always just replace the RAZR's battery with the Maxx. I've only played with RAZR's in store (have had my Nexus since late January) so I can't comment much more. I just know it can be done. Here's a link to a how-to over at XDA.

Replace RAZR Battery with RAZR Maxx Battery

I haven't read the main thread in ages so can't remember if they also have any sources for getting the spare parts or not. If you can grab two Maxx batteries and covers AND the RAZR's for a good price you will end up with basically two Maxx's for STILL cheaper than it would cost to actually buy the Maxxs' lol

Seriously if I was getting a RAZR this is the path I'd go down. Just because I thought it was a crap move of Motorola to release the RAZR's then turn around and re-release it with a different battery. So yeah this brought a smile to my face seeing as you could do this. ^_^

Exactly the same phone, just a bigger battery and bigger rear section to hold it.
