    MAXX or standard battery?

I'm kinda bummed about having standard size Razr accessories while the possibility of a battery upgrade stares at me. I guess I can find solace in that, with the original battery, the phone is uncharacteristically lightweight. Since it also recharges to full in about an hour plugged into the wall, an I can piggy-back an extended battery...well, I guess I don't feel too bad.

Most of the RAZR "standard size" accessories have inserts that when removed allow for the added thickness of a case. For instance, my Navigation Car Dock and my home HD Desktop Dock both have inserts that can be removed. I would bet that Motorola was already considering an extended battery upgraded version of the RAZR when they designed these accessories, since the RAZR MAXX would likely fit quite nicely into both of my docks without a case on them and with the inserts removed.

My silicone and kickstand-holster won't accommodate the all-flat back of the MAXX. Neither will the navigator dock. It will take a contoured Razr, or one in a shell, but not the non-contoured back of the MAXX.

I don't mean to be adversarial but how do you know? First off, the MAXX DOES have a contoured back, although it is much less contoured than that of the RAZR, and the thinner portion of the back starts lower on the phone (near middle). It also of course, doesn't get nearly as thin at the bottom as the RAZR does. Since you have likely not yet had the opportunity to hold a MAXX in your hands, and likely also haven't had the chance to try one in your accessories, unless you went to CES, you're speculating and judging based on photos.

I'd say, give the unit a physical try in the Navigation Dock. You might be surprised that with the insert removed it will fit nicely. I have had a RAZR in that Navigation Dock with a rather thick case on and it was able to seat and the USB sliding plug lock was able to slide into place and make a clean contact with the phone. Maybe you didn't realize the Navigation Dock DOES have an insert as it is sold, which is intended to remain in the dock UNLESS you have a case on the phone.

As for the Silicone and Kickstand holders, I would have to agree that they will likely NOT fit since they are usually designed to "form fit" or at least not fit well.

On Moto's website, they show the car dock for the Maxx as "Coming Soon." So, I would imagine if it was the same as the original Razr they would show it available. And no HD docks at all.

I am aware of the Navigation dock insert, however with or without the insert, the contour of the Razr is followed enough for me to easily speculate that a near-uniform thickness of the MAXX will make it awkward at least. Naked, you may be able to rig something. I'd wager with a case a no-go. Since I didn't state certain details to favor brevity, I can understand the misconception of my position.

I agree that the MAXX with a case is likely out of the question. I'll have to take a look at my car dock tomorrow to see just what clearance there is and whether it looks like it will fit without the insert.

What about an universal type dock? They can have a mess with the cables but you don't have to remove and replace the case every time you use it.

I got this bad boy and couldn't be happier with it (use it with the Torque app and an OBDII bluetooth sensor for ultimate geeking out):
