    LTE Coverage

When I put my specific mail address into VZW's LTE site, it says I'm covered. Yet I rarely see the LTE signal light up in my status bar. So, is it reasonable to expect it to eventually improve? Or is this as good as it gets?

For what it's worth, I'm in central NJ.

    Thanks.

It'll get better...been a lot of outages lately from what I've read online. I've had zero problems with my 4G coverage here in Charleston, SC

I think I heard that by the end of 2013 they are trying to get 4g as widespread as 3g is now

Same here. My phone is constantly switching between 4G and 3G in MA. Verizon is borked. I drove through 3 major towns here and never even had a data signal at all. Nice. 30 bucks for this, lol. I called today about it. They said....."turn off your phone, pull your SIM card, wait 30 seconds, install SIM, turn phone on and see what happens....."

    Awesome. High tech.

There are two different types of coverage for 4G. There's 4G and there's 4G extended coverage. Both are clearly represented on the coverage maps but in two different shades of Red. True 4G, which I think is the brighter Red, is areas that are saturated with full 4G coverage by many smaller cell sites that are better at producing signal down at ground level coverage and which overlaps from more than one site. 4G extended is areas that are on the fringes of overlapping coverage at best. The coverage of those 4G extended areas is provided by longer range directional towers and the signal is only good when you are in line of sight from the tower's antenna.

For me, my home is 2 blocks outside the full 4G area but is inside the 4G extended coverage antennas' range. Even so, I don't get 4G at my house, but have it in my car once I leave my home. It seems that because my home is down in a hole when compared to the full 4G coverage areas, the signal essentially flies right over my head at the house.

As my car travels up the hills leaving my street, it's getting closer to the height of those directional antennas so the signal strength increases until eventually it's strong enough to authenticate and capture the 4G signal. When coming home it's just the opposite - strong 4G coverage starts to get weaker till it eventually switches to 3G as I roll down my street towards my home.

I have the same situation. On the verizon map, I should be in 4g extended coverage at my house but I never see it. Verizon suggested a signal repeater for $250 for the house, but It can be had for $80 bucks.

    Example:
Samsung Verizon Wireless Network Extender - CDMA personal base station

Only problem is that will only extend the 3G but not the 4G.

A 4G extender isn't available for Verizon yet.
