Need help/advise with doing a factory reset :(

Since the ICS updates months ago Ive been experiencing minor problems such as GPS delays and such. The list has been growing ever since and today Ive been having problems with media process stopping, as well as the keyboard (factory) quitting while typing a text. Im convinced I need to do a factory re-set... but I am SO scared lol. If anyone could help that would be great. I would like to know how to backup apps and make that as painless as possible. Im pretty sure I have my contacts and media backed up... but the apps I have yet to figure out. Any usefull help would be appreciated, Im kinda freaking out here and miss my phone the way it was. THANKS.

I've read a ton of threads on this... but Im still worried Im going to screw something up. Would like to know the easiest way to do this... the easiest way to SAVE as much as possible

There's nothing to be skeered of

You can back up your apps through Google, and they will re-install them after you do the FDR. If not, any apps that you installed are tied to your Gmail address associated with your phone, meaning any apps you have downloaded (and also any apps paid for) are marked "installed" in the Play Store.

If you don't want to back everything up through Google, there is a free app called "App Dragon" which will list all your apps and send the list to your email address, and then after the FDR you just go to the Store and go down the list and re-install them.

And this is MY personal preference, but I prefer to re-install apps fresh after an FDR. You are starting over with a clean slate, so if an app is acting up or making your phone act up, it's better to re-install it fresh. Yeah, it takes a little more time, but it's worth it in the long run. But again, that's MY personal preference, the choice is yours.

Sounds harmless enough lol... just so hard to actually click the "reset" button lol. Do you know if I will still have my progress and purchased items that I have accumulated for my games?

P.s. The signature is hilarious LOL!

Hmmmm, the games and stuff I can't help with ... I don't play any games on my phone. I wouldn't want to say yes and the answer be no, so I would rather be honest and say "I don't know" LOL

And thanks! There have been some classic moments in my classroom thread

Kstyle, believe me you will be very happy you did the reset. One thing you can do that allows some assurance that you will get back what you had is to copy your exact internal and external sdcards to your pc. I do that periodically just in case something happens. Basically what I end up with is two folders on my pc that look exactly and have the same contents of my sdcards.

You can also use this post I wrote as an additional guide.

Getting the most success upgrading to ICS from GB

But I agree with Matty 100%...much better to manually install your apps one by one and to redo the settings rather than rely on the backup's settings.

Anything that you purchased through play store and everything you ever once installed under your Google account (email address) will still be available to you in play store, found by going to settings, my apps then at the top scroll over to all.

Dont worry about doing one, I felt the same way you did the first time I had to do one. Google will have a list of EVERY app you have ever installed, even if you have it uninstalled.

One you are all done doing your reset, just go to the play store and re-install all the ones you want.

Which games do you play that you are worried about?

Ugh... I was able to keep my stuff, but I lost all my settings, including my mobile hotspot hack I didnt have root access before, but I had rooted and done the hotspot thing back in the GB days. When I upgraded to ICS, I never lost it. Its gone now... and my GPS doesnt find itself any faster now with the reset. Hopefully my text issues and media forclosures are fixed. Smh....

That's easy ... just root ICS with Matt's Utility and re-hack your hotspot. Can be done in minutes
