Since this group is one of the ones where all my buds hang out, I thought I'd take a moment - off topic (please excuse), and let you all in on something:

    5,000 posts, 1,000 likes!

Here it is, folks! I've hit two milestones at once!

This happened yesterday while I was Mobile, so I didn't have a way to grab a full page screen shot, but thanks to JSM9872, he grabbed it for me (see below).

    MattyP's .215 Leak Classroom-screen-shot-2012-07-29-2.08.06-pm.png

Oh, and by the way JSM9872 ALSO hit an even bigger milestone...10,000 posts on the 27th (the day before mine!) How about a round of applause for him!

We both owe it all to you here, and to all the other members in the time since we joined as well. We often hit milestones but don't take notice and although it may mean something to you personally, unless you share your personal level of pride in those milestones with others, they may seem far less important.

The thing I am most proud of is the number of likes I've received. This is really the only way anyone coming in as a newbie has to gauge how well the forum receives them, how helpful they've been to others, how much people appreciate all the work they do, and ultimately how helpful they can expect you'll be for their situation. Sure, there are likes for other reasons as well...a crack here, a poke there, a joke when appropriate, or even a word or two of wisdom or suggestion of self-control to a wayward or angry poster, but the bulk of likes for most come from people who were frustrated and needed help, and you were there to help them in their time of need.

I don't know if there is another member with over 1,000 likes here on the forum, though there are members who were here long before me, and who were helping people before the "Likes" system was in place (like JSM9872), and so they've "missed out" on all those past potential "Likes" and that puts me at perhaps an unfair advantage. This is why I wish to recognize ALL the contributors to this forum...whether it was ONE post to help someone, or if you are - like me, constantly looking to see who you can help get back onto the path to Droid happiness. It's all the same.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. No religion needed, that's just plain GOOD SENSE. Whether it's "Karma", "Paying it forward", "The Butterfly Effect", however you wish to categorize it, the result is the same. The more you do to help others, the more others will appreciate you, and then there's the bonus...they'll be more likely inclined to help others with the knowledge and support you gave to them. Geez, if we keep this up, we might actually end both war and poverty. But I digress.

Thank you, everyone for being part of this great community and for your support. It's YOU (not me) that makes this community what it is, and for that, I BOW TO YOU!!

Congrats FoxKat, probably deserved many more from what I have seen. For how much I know and how much I've learned from the likes (pun intended) of you, I figure that if I ever have more "likes" received than given, then I am doing something seriously wrong. Its not that complicated to tap the like button. Congratulations Again!!

That's a great point. I do have more likes given than received, but it's getting perhaps dangerously close. I guess my work has just begun!! Thanks!

Happy to report no issues have come up since the update. I got a replacement phone and that fixed my battery issues so I hope this makes it better. Side note; are we unofficial soak soak testers? These "leaks' came about rather easily no?

Size: 15.2 KB You've done a lot for everyone here, least of all moi! You are knowledgeable, a very patient teacher, and a great encourager to those of us who are new to android.

Likes are such a simple little thing - and they cost nothing - but it really makes your day to sign on and see a number behind Notifications!

We're lucky to have so many good folks here (including MattyP, since it is his thread!), I would start to list them but I'd either leave someone out or be here all day.

    Thank you to you all!

Congrats FoxKat... WoooHooo! A true testament to all you've done for others. And to think of all the "likes" that go undone and there are so many. I am a perfect example of this... because I almost always visited DF through the android app, for months I had no idea that there was that capability. Then someone mentioned "liking" a post. "Huh, what, what are you talking about... giving likes?" That is when I first discovered this worth while feature. To think of the times I missed the opportunity to say "thank you" or "that really helped a lot" or "great information" or even "you made me laugh" just by giving a simple "like" because I was not aware of the possibility... It's possible, FoxKat, that your like total would really be two fold.

Way to go! Thank you for all you do!

You know it's funny, but I can't tell you how many times I've given the FIRST Like to someone who has a hundred (or more) posts, but nobody else every bothered to say "good job", or "congratulations", or simply "it's nice to have you as a part of my community". Since that first like, I've seen these same members blossom into strong contributors who are now fully integrated into the forum. If the world could take one lesson from this, it's that positive breeds positive.

Hey, LIFE is SHORT. Why go through it missing opportunities to both "feel good" and to help make others "feel good"? It was once said, a man's wealth is not judged by the money he has, but by the number of friends. If that's the case, heck, I'm a wealthy man (at least here anyway, don't look at my bank account though ). I subscribe to the theory that nobody does anything, no matter how much they believe they do, without some deep-rooted desire for the benefit it provides. Free will...I say garbage. Even the philanthropist who pays anonymously for a student's college tuition by way of a scholarship is doing it for themselves...for the way it makes them feel inside.

So if that is true (and I believe it's physiologically impossible to deny), then this is a perfect avenue for that. So go forth and "Like" thy neighbor!!

Yeah, that's a HUGE deal, but it wasn't really my place to announce. I felt it best to leave it up to either the person who promoted her, or to Tis herself, to take the pleasure in. But since you've broken the ice...

Yay for TIS!!! One of our two newest staff members - the other is Ovelayer, also well deserving of the title and the recognition.
