How is the camera quality?
I just won one off ebay and was wondering.
Should I use a different camera app?
Fairly awful...I've had a droid RAZR, and I currently have a RAZR maxx HD. You can't fix the picture quality with an app. Bluish tinge, noisy pictures, terrible low light performance. Great phone in many ways, photography isn't one of them.

I have the razr maxx running 4.1.2, the camera does a nice job except in low light conditions. I"ve tried a couple of different camera apps, no difference other then getting some special effects.
Like the previous poster, I get good pictures from my phone except in low light conditions. My only issue with it is it will sometimes take slightly blurry photos, like the focus doesn't have time to, well, focus before it takes the pic. I typically take 3 shots and get 2-3 good pics with one maybe being blurry. I want to find a camera app that takes multiple shots with one click.

I've taken pictures at concerts and the pics haven't been that great (why can't they just stand STILL long enough for me to focus, zoom, etc and let me take my dang picture! ). I've taken some of my dogs and stuff and if the dogs don't move, the pictures can look OK on the phone, but if I upload to the computer or FB, the pics look a little blurry or static-y.
Chaos, panic and disorder -- my work here is finally done.
Overall, its a decent camera on a smartphone. If you are taking pictures of static objects and have time to let it focus, then it can take pretty decent pictures. However, action shots and low light shots are lacking. I have however, managed to get a few outstanding sunset pictures on the beach as well as some other pretty decent low light pics.
I just take a whole bunch, pic the best and delete the crappy ones.
As far as apps to make it take better pictures, I don't really think you'll find any that do. You have an 8mp camera - probably shooting at 6mp - and a tiny lens. An app really cant fix that. I'm pretty sure there are some apps that will let you make some color corrections after you shoot but none to make it take better pictures.
I agree completely with YellowJacket. The camera is a decent camera for a phone. There are some that are a little bit better and there are far worse. Any camera is mostly limited by the lens. Any phone camera has a tiny lens that is not the greatest quality. I have a lens for my Nikon camera that costs about $5,000 and that's not even close to top of the line. It lets in a lot of light and it focuses it very sharply. No phone camera is going to be as good a almost any halfway decent dedicated point and shoot camera. The lenses are just better. An app will not fix a tiny crummy lens. It's a phone and it happens to take pictures as well. If the light is good, you can get a halfway decent shot.
I agree with the last two posters. The camera works best in bright sun and pretty crappy indoors. But I knew going in that Motorola does not have the best cameras in there phones. You can snap pictures for your memories but they are by no means framing quality.
