I down loaded the jb update and installed it my question is do I need to keep the file I down loaded on my sd card or can I delete it ?

If you actually downloaded it yourself as a leak you should keep it on your sd-ext. Until there's a fastboot the only way to save it if you brick it is to use the unbrick tool and reflash it in stock recovery. Just sayin'.
