Personal choice. If you want to tinker then you should root. Of you are going to leave it as is then rooting is not necessary.

Texas is where I want to be...
I rooted my og Droid because I wanted to be able to do tons more with the phone that I could not unrooted. I thought for sure I would quickly root my Razr for the same reasons but it ended up where I could never see a reason that I needed to root. I liked everything the phone did just fine without rooting. I did finally root but to this day, I basically do nothing on my phone that I need to have root access. If it were me, I would use your phone as is and see what you think. When the time comes where you feel you want to root, it is easy enough to do fairly quickly.Originally Posted by Tbfargo
There are also a lot of responsibilities to rooting. If you make the wrong changes to your root files, it can ruin your phone. It voids the warranty. You have to read a lot and understand exactly what you're doing before proceeding when rooted. Jmho!

I am thinking of rooting just to be able to remove a lot of the default Verizon crap i don't need or use...just waiting a bit to give it a go. never rooted before and my phone is only a week old.
SMA, with ICS you can disable most of the bloatware apps, which is basically the same as you would do rooted. If you're rooted you freeze the apps which is no different than disabling. But you wouldn't want to delete them (even though you could rooted) because if you needed to go back to stock to take an OTA update or to return your phone you wouldn't be able to without the deleted apps.
To disable your apps, go into app manager in settings, along the top scroll to all apps, find the apps you don't want then uninstall or disable. Some apps you have to uninstall the updates before you are able to disable them. If you ever need to re-enable them, they will be listed at the bottom of the all apps list.
Hope this helps.
Take Tis' advice, save you a bunch of heartaches.Originally Posted by TisMyDroid

Just be careful what you disable...Originally Posted by SMA82278
Very true. I am not that familiar with all the phone necessities but all i disabled and removed were the NFL stuff, golf game, amazon, kindle... etc... if i don't know what it is i left it alone. anyone have a list of do's and dont's?
Not being rooted, you can only disable apps that are safe to disable. If you do find that you need the app (because it is necessary for another app to work properly), then all you need to do is enable the app again.Originally Posted by TheDroidURLookinFor
