Gmail Widget = Rapid Battery Drain?

The battery life on my Maxx has always been stellar but I noticed something interesting lately after doing a cache clean and the .215 leak update. Other than not installing a few apps I didn't use, the only other change I made was to install the Gmail widget on one of my blank screens a few days after doing the clean and update. Before doing so, my battery life was quite good and I felt slightly better than before until I installed the widget. Normal use of the phone would leave me with close to 70% at the end of the day and a good 2 days worth of use.

After starting to use the widget though, I was at about 50% by the middle of the day and pushing 40% by the evening. I also noticed that I was dropping to 80% pretty quickly - after just a couple hours of use.

So I backtracked thinking the only "big" change I made was the email app and deleted it from my 2nd screen. Well, guess what.... Been off the plug since about 7am today and after using Copilot Lige GPS maps for about 45 minutes and several phone calls - 2 of them 30 minutes, I just hit 80%.

So I am going to do a little experiment and see how things go for a few days then start using the widget again to see if my battery life goes back down.

Anyone else having less than optimal battery life that is running the gmail widget want to try and see?

    Just wondering,

    David

I noticed this happening on my Nexus 7 tablet, I took the widget off my home screen and I am getting well over two days use now on one charge.

Thanks sydman, that helps confirm my suspicions.

So, my last post was at 12:30 pm today and I went for an almost 2 hour walk and used runkeeper to track my progress. During the walk I took several pictures and a few videos of a stray dog that decided to tag along with me and my dog. Also had two more long phone calls and several dozen texts. I'm at 70%.

I'm confident that the gmail widget is a source of major battery drain.

Interested to see what others think.

Gmail Widget = Rapid Battery Drain?-12-1.jpg

There may have been a little confusion... Here is a picture of the widget. It is not the gmail app or icon I am talking about.

On a side note, I disabled the widget on my xoom and have seen an increase in battery life there too.

Yep that is the same one I was using on my Nexus that I ended up removing.
