Razr Maxx: Just a bigger battery? Or is there more to it?

I read an online review of the Maxx, and naturally the reviewer went on about the battery life. But at the end of the review, in the comments section, a reader wrote:

"[P]eople should not confuse what Motorola did with any power management innovation. Its just a larger battery. Big Deal."

I tend to think that might not be true. My Maxx's 3300mA battery is just over twice the capacity of the 1620mA battery in my Thunderbolt, yet I'm getting easily four times the life out of it. I don't know too much about these things, but common sense tells me that in addition to having a larger battery, the Maxx also uses that power more efficiently. Thoughts?

You can't really compare the battery life on two different phones even if they had the same battery they would probably be different. The one thing Motorola came out with when they released the Razr was Smart Actions, which can be setup to help with battery life.

I don't think they changed anything else to make it more efficient than other phones.

The OP is not asking about the difference between the Maxx and the RAZR. He's comparing his MAXX to his old Thunderbolt.

Exactly. I realize that the Razr and the Razr Maxx are virtually identical, apart from their batteries. What I want to know is if the sort of battery life we see in the Maxx is attributable solely to the size of the battery, or if there have been advances and innovations in the last year or two that have allowed phones to use their power more efficiently.
