Razr maxx screen turning on by itself randomly !

I recently got a Razr Maxx and have the same problem.

I have been going through apps carefully checking for nuisance notifications.

Paydirt - looked at Juice Defender log.

Among legitimate log events ...

10.28 Screen on (user present)
10.33 ditto
10.45 ditto
10.48 ditto
10.53 ditto
10.57 ditto

This is with the phone sitting on a shelf on the other side of the room. Face up or face down. Anyone else?

Any idea what app senses "user present"

My guess is the sensor that tells when you put it up to your ear when placing a call. It's up towards the top of the screen.

There is a countargument to it being to see if my ear is close.

My ear is on the other side of the room (That's a partial joke)
There is nothing near the screen
When I put my face or ear up near any part of the screen the screen doesn't light up.

Big problem is battery life is only so so on the Maxx (still Ok compared to my old Desire HD) and it turns on in my pocket and launches apps etc and gets hot because of all the CPU activity (when it is on in my pocket.

Love to know what app is sending that status report

It happens every 10 minutes or so through the night too.

There is some discussion with regards to this being a jelly bean update problem with Razr and Razr Maxx -

though I have seen it mentioned with Samsung in one case running JB.

Hunch ... double checked by uninstalling Juice Defender.

Problem has gone. So far anyway.

It is a bit of a pity as I like Juice Defender a lot. Maybe they will have a fix soon.

Hi Elle0626,

There seem to be a number of reasons for this problem.

But I resolved it on my by getting rid of Juice Defender. If you cannot remember it then you might not have installed it - in which case it might be one of the other causes that people are struggling with here. I certainly haven't had any flashes since I got rid of Juice Defender.

Juice Defender is a battery extending application. It is quite good except for this problem.

You can remove and add applications using the "Google Play Store" which should be one of the icons on the screen



Open it then press the menu key at the bottom of your screen - looks like three horizontal bars.

A menu will open - choose "My Apps"

Browse the list to see if Juice Defender is there. If it is - tap on it and you will see an option at the top of the screen to "uninstall".

Juice defender is a battery saving app that can be installed from the play store. Unless you've installed it, you wouldn't find it on your phone.

Hello. I think i have found a fix to the screen turning
On by itself.
Go to settings. Security & lock screen.
Then Clear Credentials.
my screen hasn't turned on by itself since the past week.
Hope this helps others as it helped me.
