It's far from what we're looking for, but I've been giving Mighty Text a spin, and it works very well for sending/receiving texts through your phone via a computer. It works via the internet, so there's no need to connect to a local network like with AirDroid. Of course, it doesn't give you the control that AirDroid does. In fact, it doesn't give any control. But at least it will let me send/receive text messages during a meeting without using my phone.

People, if you don't already have it, you MUST install it. I have it on Google Chrome as a plug-in, and the first screen that popped up was my recent texts! Amazing.
