    Issues with battery life

I am seeming to have some issues with my battery life and im looking for some advice. I know there are a lot of these forums but i feel my situation is different.

I just bought my Razr Maxx last weds. and im approaching the one week margin and noticing im not getting the battery life others seem to be getting. Ive tweaked around with smart actions, screen brightness is always set to automatic. And ontop of all of this im not even that heavy of a user. Not that the battery life is horrible since i seem to always make it home without it dying but im not seeing these 36 hour runs like others have.

My battery usage always seems extremely high even with the screen at the lowest setting trying to resolve this. ill get maybe an hour of netflix and that would take out atleast 30-45% of my battery.

Im still under my 14 day with verizon. Should i return this one and have a new one sent? Or should i just listen to the tech i talked to on the phone about updates coming to correct these issues?

As i said im not a heavy user. probably an hour of browser and an hour of video and im usually pushing 15% by the end of the night.

Currently turning my phone off to give it a "saturated charge" as what ive looked up and seen people talk about but i did this when i first got my phone also.

Suggestions on what to do would be great

Are you on 4G or 3G? Most of the people who push 36 hours is due to 3G and wifi usage. I get like 20 hours on 4G all day with moderate usage. In addition, if you watching Netflix on 4G then it will take a chunk of battery

I am in a 3g area for 90% of the day. Then i drive to my GF's work and go into a 4g area for id say about tops 2 hours

    Edit:

Also I brought up the power usage earlier today and noticed 60% of the use was in my display when on automatic brightness. Looking at everyone elses usage i consider this quite odd

Dont totally rely on what other people are getting on battery because everyone uses and have different apps on their phones. Some apps rather on 4g or 3g can take a chunk out of your battery life as well. Start there. Also like the other poster asked are you on 3g or 4g. We just got 4g turned on here and it has really done a job on my battery but i have been doing some heavy downloading with 4g. Also you seem to be doing another suggestion that most people are gonna say and do a charge with the phone turned off. Personally i have never done this and i never seem to have an issue with battery life for not doing it.

P.s. seem to have posted at the same time. So forgive asking bout the 4g or 3g.

Edit: Sorry, I totally missed that you had done this initially. My bad. Removed my comment to the contrary. Still, it's not just doing it once, but doing it as a 3 step process, charge to 100%/discharge to 15%/charge to 100%, that will set both flags and make sure the battery and meter agree... Carry on.

The simple truth is that the OS and the charging circuitry are already well prepared to provide the proper protection and metering of your battery, given the typical usage patterns. The real issues come from two directions.

    1) Users who take the brand new phone out of the box and begin using it without ever having charged it initially while powered off. This sets the stage for skewed data on the actual State of Charge (SOC), for the battery and can eventually result in the actual versus reported values being quite a bit apart. At best, it will indicate you are near 0% charge, but will hang in for what seems like an inordinate amount of time compared to how quickly it went from say 20% to where it seems to have settled in at.

    At worst, it can report that the battery has more remaining power than it actually does, which can result in any number of potential problems, such as;
    • forced power off, followed by no response when plugged into the charger
    • boot-looping
    • power toggling
    • extended periods of what seems like no charging at all
    • white light on the phone's face, either flashing or solid
    • gray battery with ? in the middle, indicating it can not determine the state of the battery

To resolve is a simple matter of setting the Max Capacity and Low Battery flags, which is done by charging to 100% with the power off, followed by using normally until the phone indicates the Low battery signal (at 15% capacity), followed by a second charging to 100% with the power off.

There is NO benefit to draining the battery to 0%, as some may say, and in fact it only stresses the battery which will reduce its effective useful lifespan (number of charging cycles). The Low battery flag is set when the phone tells you it's low, not at 0% as some would lead you to believe.

The process of "training" the charging and metering circuitry should be done about once every 40 charges, whether partial or complete charges, except if they are 100% charges with power off followed by use to 15% or less. Essentially about once every 1.5 to 3 months depending on the battery (RAZR versus MAXX), and also depending on how frequently you plug in - even if only for 15 minutes as an example.

If you take care of your battery, it will take care of you.

Thats alright my thing is i see these people getting so much higher output out of the phone and cant help to wonder if i had that so and so chance of getting the defective. I would like to make sure that i can still take advatage of this then trust verizon tech support about updates. I know the verizon bloatware on this turns on by itself and it literally starts up 5 different verizon apps in the task manager constantly. Sucks you cannot delete these.

After my droid 2 global i want to make sure i dont get stuck with a refurbished phone after having one simple issue and regret that swap and never having a brand new phone for another 2 years >.>

Im really hoping this charge fixes my problem because im loving this phone all too much and i would like to keep it.

But is there anyone else that deals with a 60+% drain from your display because so far i seem to be the only one ive seen and yes i am on automatic and sometimes the lowest brightness.

Yes. Mine has always been over 50 percent usage and i still get through a day with room to spare. Dont believe i have been over 60 though. Make sure your screen has a short sleep turned on as well. I keep mine short as possible. Also after you have done the charge with the phone turned off and still its doing the samething do a factory reset and go a day with just the apps it came with. See how that goes. If battery life improves start putting apps back on. If all of a sudden it starts to drain again fast you can narrow it down to being an app killing your battery.

Turn off your phone and charge it to 100%. Do this every couple of months. I have the original Razr and I have made this baby last over 24hrs on moderatqe usage on 3g/wifi and my own actions. If youre in a 3g only area switch the phone to 3g only.

So i have let the phone go to a full 100% charge overnight while the phone was off. Im checking out my display and im currently holding 47% of power from the display.

Im going to let it run down today again to the 15% margin and do this one more time to atleast give it a chance. Although getting 15 hours is great already to me im still worried that this just may be the hint to something more that can be wrong with the phone also.

    Edit:

Should i just not take the chance and just have verizon send me another droid razr maxx while i still have the option under the 14 days after purchase thing?

I have 1? how do you carry your phone is it in your pants pocket or in so kind of case. Because these super phones need air or they run
hot so try a full charge and let the phone breath as often as possible you should see some better battery life.
