Well, I did it!
I'm the proud owner of the Maxx HD :-) I am LOVING it so far, and it has only been a few hours. Slowly getting used to not having the keys on the phone, and not having an actual menu button. I think what is most difficult is getting used to having that quick settings screen to the left. Can't wait to see what kind of battery life I get compared to the Maxx.

On a serious note, is it as necessary to do a meter training with the new software?
congratulations on the new phone! I did an FDR after the JB update and then did the meter calibration and it gave me better battery life. I usually hit 50% with about 4hours of screen time. Before the calibration I'd hit 50% with about 3½.

The meter has to be able to get new reference points over time otherwise it will skew from the actual values. An analogy is driving a car. The meter is essentially trying to do the same thing. It's determining how much power you've used and how much is left, but if it doesn't get to see the "white line" (fully charged), and the "yellow lines" (discharged), it will be making estimations that over time will accumulate and result in substantially different levels than the actual ones. It's a combination of many issues;
- The fact that the battery slowly loses the ability to hold as much of a charge as it did when new (estimated life is 1.5-2 years reduced to 80% of original capacity),
- The more times you charge to 100% and/or deplete to near 0%, the faster it loses capacity,
- Then there's the fact that the power consumption is NEVER constant, but increases and decreases constantly due to differing cell tower power - making the phone increase and decrease both the "homing signals" (pinging the towers), and the transmission power levels being increased and decreased based on what the level of signals it receives are,
- And the varying applications and background services that poll the network for email, facebook, music, video, and on and on...
- Then there's the fact that often times we charge when our phones are at different discharge levels, screwing up the "reference points",
- And we may not always charge to 100% either, so again, we're screwing up the reference points,
- And probably the most important reason of all, the batteries in these newest generation phones don't have a linear discharge rate - meaning that for each certain percentage of power used, the voltages don't drop at the same rate when it's near full versus when it's partially discharged, nearly fully discharged or anywhere in between. The meter is trying to "guesstimate" and that's where the errors start and begin to accumulate.

Lol thanks for the story :-P I let to drop to 10% last night, and I'm only down to 78% after 14 hours, so maybe tomorrow night it'll be down again to charge.
I basically find myself charging the phone every other night... dancedroid Its weird, on my last phone I was always watching the battery... because it was poor, and now I find myself watching the battery because it's so GOOD.
