I can easily imagine lint getting into the charging port and depending on the material, it might ignite when you're charging it. I don't know if there's any cases of something like this happening but I'd rather not take the risk when it can be easily avoided.

Lint is an insulator and a 3.7 volt battery running at 3300 mAh is not going to have enough juice to start a fire.

Thin cases with port covers don't exist.

I don't think having them exposed is an issue, but you could always try these out: Amazon.com: Cosmos Black silicone anti-dust stopper/plug set - 4x USB, 2x 3.5mm earphone/mic jack: Electronics

That's probably the only thing I'll miss on my Fascinate, the little sliding door that covers the USB hookup.

I hate those port covers... they always get in the way, but that is just a personal preference.

Does anyone know of a relatively slim case that has built in port plugs? So far I've only found the Otterbox Commuter, but that thing almost doubles the depth of the phone.
